Welcome to 娇色导航Leadership Live at IDC Directions. I'm honored to welcome Sarah Betadam, 娇色导航and CISO Novanta on the show again. Thanks so much for being on the show, Sarah, we just got off the stage on the main stage, welcome.

Thank you so much. Thank you, Lee, for having me here again. Can you introduce

yourself and just maybe tell us a little bit about your role at nevanta? Sure.

Sarah Betadam, 娇色导航/ CISO at Novanta. I have a dual role, and it kind of becomes a Yin & Yang as as as we you know, as as my role progresses.

But when it comes to AI, as we talked about, then stage, I do want to transform the organization in a in a safe and safe manner, but at the same time, you have to always balance the business as well as the technology. So there.

So my dual role kind of plays both roles at the same time, and you just have to balance it, just like anything else in life. Well, we

just thank you so much.

We just had a great chat on the stage about your role as a 娇色导航and how it's transformed like from, you know, being maybe the guy and the two guys and the girl in the basement saying, Have you turned it on to turned it on to really being involved into a leadership role in the organization?

So can you talk about some of the strategies you do in working with your C suite and maybe the board of directors around them, understanding especially what's happening right now with technology evolution around Gen AI, I know you must have a lot of pressures and a lot of questions, and they want to know how to accelerate business through it.

So could you talk a little bit about your changing role?

No, I appreciate it, because I feel like they need to be a chief AI officer now too, because it is a lot different in the sense that it's a brand new setup, that you need to also go through the process of change management, training and educating.

So when it comes to the management, senior management, you have to educate. Like, what does aI mean for each organization? What would be our AI strategy? Because machine learning has been around for many, many years.

So what everyone is talking about, the definition of AI for organization is Gen AI, and what does that mean? So then that's where I worked with our senior leadership, as well as everyone in the company we are looking at the Gen AI, and that's our strategy.

And then we start ensuring in a different ways, you start with experimenting, experimenting many things. So, you know, there's multitude of enterprise level buy that you could buy or you build it within.

But build it within, it comes with a different set of items that you have to make sure that you're paying attention to, and board as well.

Now we have to present in front of the board, because AI has become such a big topic that not only Board wants to know, how are we progressing, and how is that going to be enabler for productivity, as well as transforming a competitive advantage of our product line, but also the privacy aspect of it, of How we're protecting our IP information from the eyes that are not supposed to be seeing them, right?

So you're like a true partner with this. Well, you are part of the C suite, but you're a true partner with the other areas of the business in helping evolve and grow, okay? And you also hold a dual role.

You said, 娇色导航and this and CI over here to our to two shoulders, probably arguing with each other at times about what you would do. Can you talk a little bit about, you know, security around and risk around, especially what's happening with with data and an AI,

absolutely, this is data is important because data, it is the IP information of your company, and if it gets out, this is your company goes away. So how do we make sure that we're still competitive, but then also looking at it in a protective way?

So this is where we have aI governance, I would say a triangle that it starts with the operation team members, and this is where we are also talking about, how do we have the infrastructure team members to be and security to be forefront, as before they were in a basement and they're not coming up so, so they're the They're the team that goes around and make sure that they do the research and figure out what are the tool sets that you know you could take a look at and make sure that they are our data privacy is protected, or our data stays within the company.

And then it goes to the AI governance and the second level, which is AI canceled. That is as multitude of the team members across as a cross functional effort to look at our potential pilots that we want to do so it comes from the operation team.

It comes from also different members within AI Council. And we discuss, we go through the process of, is this a business case, is this a good business case to in order to pursue is going to be safe?

This is going to give us a revenue growth so those are the two major KPIs that we have to make sure is answering yes before we spend the time and the money in order to progress.

And so we've been doing this for almost a year and a half, and happy to say that we've been really focused with the R and D aspect and making sure that we could get the products out and so therefore, you know, enable the growth within the company, and, you know, also serve our customer, which are the, you know, forefront of our company, in order To make sure they're happy, and served Fantastic.

Thank you for sharing that with us. I know it'll be really impactful to anyone listening in who maybe works with a separate 娇色导航CISO, you know, and they're in their 娇色导航role, so I appreciate that. All right.

Well, we're, this is the first time we've had a chance to meet in person, because we are in San Jose at the 60th anniversary of IDC directions.

So can you just talk a little bit, perhaps, about, like, attending events like this and others, and how that really helps support, support you in your own role in your career?

Well, it was, I mean, I've been working with you for for a few years, and it's so nice that post pandemic, you're able to see people, yeah, um, because people relationship, it matters. Um, you can build trust and relationship if you're not in person.

Once you've built that foundation, it's okay to be online, and then as we, you know, as we grow through different, you know, part of the world and we travel and stuff, it's okay. But what I love about in person. Meetings. Are meeting other people, networking.

This is a great event. I've been going to the different sessions, and just it's very inspiring to kind of hear other points of view, how others are trying to solve the same problem that I've been thinking about.

And because learning is number one, like you always have to be open to learn, and you can never stop learning so and also meeting you. Awesome.

Yeah, it's really wonderful. Well, thank you so much for joining us today on the stage, on the main, you know, main stage for a panel. I really appreciate that, and I appreciate our continued collaboration and discussion.

Thank you so much, Lee, thanks. Thank you. Transcribed by https://otter.ai
