Over the past two years, culminating in July 2024, Johnson & Johnson MedTech Australia and New Zealand transitioned from Salesforce to Microsoft Dynamics as its future-ready customer experience platform.
This transition was far from simple. The legacy Salesforce platform had extensive customizations and additional business functions, making the move to a new CRM complex.
“Our Microsoft Dynamics environment now supports all departments across the organization, not just sales,” said Geoff Quattromani, Head of Technology at Johnson & Johnson. “With over 33 functions, including case management, customer service, professional education, digital marketing engagements, quotes, and bookings, the value of this transition was both financial and strategic, aligning this key platform with our broader architectural goals.”
Quattromani highlighted that the cost of using Microsoft Dynamics was significantly lower than Salesforce. Moreover, by integrating the customer experience platform with the company’s broader suite of Microsoft tools, including analytics, Johnson & Johnson is now positioned to overlay Copilot AI capabilities across the entire ecosystem.
“Our sales and supply chain teams now have end-to-end visibility of the customer, deeper integration into their workflows, and a stronger connection to the customer journey,” he added. “Sales teams in the field have enhanced mobile capabilities, including offline modes for use in hospitals, while our marketers enjoy a 360-degree view of the customer, tracking all touchpoints along their journey.”
Previously, customer data was siloed and lacked governance. With the new platform, data visibility and stewardship have greatly improved.
Developing high influence
The business has a stronger appreciation for what benefits are available when the core data model drives insights and analytics that the organisation had unrealised previously, leading to improved customer engagements.
This has been just one of the many projects worked on by Quattromani, who has been with the company for over ten years and has served in several roles advancing his career to Head of Technology.
During his time at Johnson & Johnson he has led acquisition integrations for IT, driven new data and analytics platforms into the business and launched their digital marketing and online presence in the market.
He has developed a high level of influence on the organisation, building relationships at the board through his innovative mindset and challenging the status quo.
Beyond Johnson & Johnson, Quattromani maintained a public profile as a technology commentator, regularly appearing on national programs such as Sunrise and the Today Show, as well as on radio stations across Australia. His external visibility helps Johnson & Johnson stay at the forefront of technology, adopting AI, voice assistants, virtual reality, and more as early adopters.
He uses this external lens as a benefit to employees in the organisation by hosting technology talks and webinars to help educate teams across Asia Pacific on the latest technology trends and tools, the J&J view of them and how it can help employees be more productive, inspire new ideas and drive an innovation mindset.
Most recently, Quattromani has demystified generative AI, demonstrated internal GenAI tools and showed MS Copilot in action. This drives employees to learn, experience and develop their skillsets and give J&J MedTech a competitive advantage.
Geoff is also co-chair of the MTAA Digital Health Advisory Group and member of the Cyber Security Working Group to improve the health industry embrace digital, in a secure way. Geoff regularly speaks at industry events to share the success of MedTech, drive recruitment and inspire others. Geoff now sits among 16 in J&J MedTech in the leadership team including the board members and has a standing segment in the monthly board meetings for technology.
Small but vital team
At Johnson & Johnson, Quattromani leads a relatively small team that is based in Sydney however coordinates numerous teams across Asia Pacific as part of various projects. “I am constantly in awe of my team who achieve so much, despite our low headcount. While we do rely on regional teams for technical tasks, it goes without saying that achievements I raise are a direct result of the incredible team in ANZ” said Quattromani .
Each year the organisation carries out a Credo survey to collect the pulse of its people across all elements including culture. The A/NZ IT team holds the highest employee satisfaction, not just compared to other A/NZ departments but also when compared with other IT departments globally.
He is now the employee Credo lead for ASPAC IT to drive the company’s scores in diversity equity inclusion, innovation, culture and leadership to take the strengths of ANZ to the region.
Quattromani encourages flexible working to enable staff to cater to their families, their own working hours and personal commitments.
