Andrew Wilson, 娇色导航of Accenture, discusses what it means to be a digital 娇色导航

Andrew Wilson, 娇色导航of Accenture, is a Digital CIO. 鈥淒igital CIOs have a different skillset than traditional CIOs,鈥 he says. 鈥淭hey have to modify their behavior in a way that makes sense to their stakeholders, many of whom are millennials.鈥

The Digital CIO, says Wilson, is an orchestrator of a whole new supply chain of technology providers, a consultant who brings game-changing ideas to the business, and a new kind of communicator.听 The Digital 娇色导航is a role model for other executives still caught in legacy thinking, legacy operations, and legacy approaches to communication.听 鈥淐IOs can no longer sit there with an IT budget waiting for the business to make demands,鈥 Wilson says. 鈥淭echnology is pervasive and always changing; the digital 娇色导航should be the first to say, 鈥榯echnology can do this in the business.鈥 That is different from the past.鈥 听

So, how does the 娇色导航of a global company of over 300,000 employees, demonstrate digital leadership?

Digital Permeates Everything

For Andrew Wilson, who spent more than 20 years running an Accenture P&L before he became 娇色导航in 2013, digital leadership permeates everything he does from organizational design to SDLC to how he communicates to his organization.听

When we chatted a few weeks ago, Wilson mentioned a particularly compelling communication vehicle he is using at Accenture, so I asked him to tell me more.

鈥淎s 娇色导航for a company that employs a large number of post-millennials, I need to cultivate a brand that makes sense to that generation,鈥 Wilson says. 鈥淪o, I do not write emails; I produce TV shows.鈥

娇色导航TV Show

娇色导航Live is a TV show that Wilson broadcasts quarterly to Accenture鈥檚 entire IT organization. It has multiple cameras, a set, and a studio audience. 鈥淚magine The Tonight Show with guests from the business and our senior leadership team,鈥 says Wilson.听 鈥淚 open with a monologue that reflects on news headlines, some of the themes I am hearing from the Accenture marketing team, our critical measures of success, and key messages from our executive leadership.听 We are launching an upgraded CRM solution and are about to re-launch our website, so I talk about all of that.鈥

Wilson might have a guest from the marketing team demo the new website or ask his DevOps lead to stand up, 鈥渨eatherman style鈥 to walk through a new dashboard. 鈥淭he PowerPoint is dead,鈥 says Wilson.听 鈥淒igital CIOs need to communicate with digital products.鈥 听听

Accenture is a sprawling global organization where Wilson鈥檚 guests may not be able to make it to the studio. 鈥淭he head of our digital practice was good enough to join me even though he was on vacation when I wanted him to be on the show,鈥 says Wilson. 鈥淪o he participated on the big screen just over my shoulder.鈥

Spinoffs

Wilson doesn鈥檛 stop with the TV show; he is turning 娇色导航Live into a social media phenomenon within Accenture.听 鈥淏efore the show, people start tweeting that they are on their treadmill ready for 娇色导航Live,鈥 and I post photos to my blog of me in makeup,鈥 he says. 鈥淧eople across the company get together and watch the show as teams.鈥

娇色导航Live has been such a hit that Wilson has set up a virtual TV studio and green screen at home, which will allow him to broadcast more often than four times a year.听 鈥淚 call it Virtual Live, and it is linked to my blog,鈥 he says. 鈥淭hese are seven minute vignettes where I interview members of the IT leadership team on topics of interest to the entire IT organization.鈥

Being a Digital 娇色导航means more than bringing digital capabilities to your business. In a world whose employees and customers are becoming accustomed to blogs and YouTube and twitter, 鈥測ou have be digital yourself,鈥 says Wilson. 鈥淵ou need a leadership style that appeals to the post millennials; you need to be good on camera.鈥
